Brooks Defyance 4 Wins Runner’s World’s “Editor’s Choice” Award
The Defyance 4 is a workhorse, a great training shoe for neutral runners who want a balanced, supportive ride. It’s based on the fit and feel of the award-winning Adrenaline GTS, but more flexible for runners who need less support. We updated it with a caterpillar crash pad for a smoother, adaptable transition from heel-to-toe, and an asymmetrical arch saddle for a snug, secure mid-foot wrap.
The Defyance 4 doesn’t always get the attention or love that some of our other shoes such as the Adrenaline GTS or the Ghost 3 get. But this seldom-sung hero is getting its day in the sun.
In the Runner’s World magazine’s Spring 2011 Running Shoe Guide the Defyance 4 was named Editor’s Choice. In the March 2011 issue, Runner’s World states, “this update is flexible yet firm underfoot and snug in the heel. The upper provides a secure, articulated wrap through the arch that testers absolutely raved about.” As a Runner’s World wear-tester noted, “The upper held firm, but not so much that it kept my foot from working.” Runner’s World recommended the Defyance for “beginners or any runner looking for a versatile training shoe” and for “high-mileage days or tempo runs”.
