Find Your Inner Hero, Get Outside, and Enjoy This Charleston First
Event with After-Party Supports Wellness Programs for Local Title One Schools

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 – (Charleston, SC) On September 17, a West Ashley event encourages kids, teens, and adults to join in a healthy competition to run, walk, and sport their costumes before Halloween gets here. But this isn't any costume, this get up is one that supports each participant's personal power for the First Annual Super Hero 5K taking place on the West Ashley Greenway. Proceeds from this event fund the Charleston-based preventative wellness and character development non-profit, Yoga Benefits Kids (YBK). Register on

In its third year of implementing programs, YBK has a lot to celebrate as they just received their approval letter of 501(c)3 status in August. Lululemon will kick off the event with all ages yoga tents to stretch and encourage participants' to find their inner super hero before the race. And participants and friends alike won't miss their favorite early football game since the after-party is at The Roost Bar 'N Grille in Avondale. While there, 5K participants in costume will receive special offers.

Awards will be given to recognize top costumes per category and first finishers by age group. All ages are welcome. Registration is just $20.00 through September 10 and students through high school pay a discounted rate of only $10.00. Those who cannot attend but want to support can sponsor a child for $10.00, which gives a student the opportunity to participate at no cost; that's less than eating lunch out one day this week.

Sponsors include: Alchemy Coffee, Charleston Power Yoga, Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, Coats and Tails Grooming, earthArt, Earth Fare, lululemon, Oskar's, Staples, Triangle Char and Bar, West Of.
